“But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.” (1Co 11:3)

“11 Let a woman learn in silence, in all subjection. 12 And I do not allow a woman to teach nor to exercise authority [over] a man, but to be in silence.” (1Ti 2:11-12 LIT)

“34 ¶ Let your women be silent in the churches, for it is not allowed to them to speak, but to be in subjection, as also the Law says. 35 But if they desire to learn anything, let them question their husbands at home; for it is a shame for a woman to speak in a church. 36 ¶ Or did the Word of God go out from you? Or did it reach only to you?” (1Co 14:34-36)

Let us start with the definition that: Preaching is Teaching is Governing.

TEACHER:

To teach or instruct; one whose business or occupation is to instruct others; an instructor; a tutor.

One who instructs others in religion; a preacher; a minister of the gospel; sometimes, one who preaches without regular ordination.

One involved in activities of educating or instructing or teaching; activities that impart knowledge or skill.

TEACH applies to any manner of imparting information or skill so that others may learn INSTRUCT suggests methodical or formal teaching

EDUCATE implies development of the mind

TRAIN stresses instruction and drill with a specific end in view

DISCIPLINE implies training in habits of order and precision.

PREACHER:

To urge acceptance or abandonment of an idea or course of action.

To proclaim or publish tidings; specifically, to proclaim the gospel; to discourse publicly on a religious subject or from a text of Scripture; to deliver a sermon.

To give serious advice on morals or religion, to discourse in the manner of a preacher.

To inculcate in public discourse, to urge with earnestness by public teaching.

To deliver or pronounce such as to preach a sermon.

To teach or instruct by preaching, to inform by preaching.

To advise or recommend earnestly a course of action.

We can easily see that Teaching and Preaching are essentially the same thing with the latter concentrating mostly on religious matters but with a lot of subjects overlapping.

Moreover Teaching/Preaching is also a form of governing for the audience is expected to put into practice the instruction received. Also the Teacher/Preacher has ascendancy over the audience for he is the giver and they are the receivers, in other words the Teacher/Preacher is in a position of superiority over the addressees for he is imparting instructions to them.

Immediately we see that if a woman Teaches/Preaches she is in a superior position to the audience and that is in clear and direct conflict with 1Co 11:3 and the others, above.

But let us develop the theme further.

What is the definition of the Kingdom of God? Our Lord Jesus has given many examples of the Kingdom but the essential one covering them all is this:

“The Kingdom of God is where His Sovereign will is carried out perfectly according to His commands and decrees”.

At the moment this is so in Heaven, but here on the earth we are to pray: “And He (Jesus) said to them: When you pray, say, Our Father who is in Heaven, hallowed be Your name, let Your kingdom come, let Your will be done on earth as it also is in Heaven.” (Luk 11:2)

To be sure, God is Sovereign and present all over His creation and this is not to be confused with the Kingdom of God where everything is done perfectly according to His will. God is all-powerful and has control over everything, there is nothing that exists and lives without His control, absolutely nothing. This earth although under the full control of God is not totally part of His Kingdom, as defined. His Kingdom on this earth is where the believers that do His will are, that is the true church. Anyone that say he is a believer should also do the will of God and not his own and be totally dedicated to: “But seek the Kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you.” (Luk 12:31)

Anyone who says he is a believer but does things rather according to his own volition he is not seeking the Kingdom of God, but he is part of the world and has established his own personal kingdom. “Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him,” (1Jo 2:15)

We are called also to be perfect: “Therefore, you be perfect even as your Father in Heaven is perfect.” (Mat 5:48) and to be perfect we must do the will of God to His glory, not our fancy notions. Thus it is not sufficient for anybody to says that he feel to be called to the ministry of preaching, amongst others, but this “calling” has to be tested, endorsed and substantiated by God’s rules, i.e. His Word, the Bible.

The best thing to do to ever understand well anything and to develop a solid basis is to start at the beginning: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth;” (Gen 1:1). This statement sets the scene parameters in that it categorically states that “at the beginning GOD” there was nothing except God and that all the subsequent events have their beginning and reason to exist in God and in nothing else. This means that all our reasoning and actions must have their being in God and must be according to His will to be real: “For in him we live, and move, and have our being; …..” (Act 17:28). Anything that is not in conformity with His dictates, the Bible, is false and has to be rejected.

The principles of living in the Kingdom of God begin in Genesis chapter one and end in Revelation and we do well to stick closely to them. In Genesis we see that the Lord created man for His purposes as the image and glory of God. After a while God says to Himself: “And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” (Gen 2:18). From that we gather that Adam was in need of a companion as his helper. Now a helper is not equal or superior to the one he helps as per the definition: “One that helps; an assistant”. Moreover, Adam’s helper was extracted from Adam and therefore a derivate of Him, which by the logic of things makes the helper subservient to its source. And this is the first principle of the man’s ascendancy over the woman: “For Adam was first formed, then Eve.” (1Ti 2:13).

Secondly, soon after her creation we see that in the Garden of Eden the Devil deceived her. This was not true for Adam. He sinned, but he was not deceived. Eve driven by the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life had allowed herself to be mislead and fell into disobedience and for that she received a specific punishment: “To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow you shall bring forth children; and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you.” (Gen 3:16) And here is the second reason for woman to be in subjection to the man: “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.” (1Ti 2:14)

Thus this is the beginning and by the principle of the “first appearance” all discussion and reference on the roles of man and woman must by necessity refer to here:

Man was created first and as the image and glory of God whilst the woman (the derivative) was made as the glory of man” 1Co 11:7.

Moreover the woman was deceived by the Evil one and fell into transgression whilst the man was not deceived.

These two statements absolutely preclude woman to ever have any authority over the man, in any possible field, whether in the Church or in the World, for all is of God. If any woman goes against these declarations, she is expressedly going against the clear dictates of God and she is an avowed rebel and one day she will have to render an account to God for her rebellion.

Of course Leftists, Libertines, Modernists and Liberals do all they can to dismiss the first three chapters of Genesis as mythological and irrelevant to our modern enlightened days for we have advanced so much and the catch phrases are like: “surely in the 21th century you do not believe such fairy tales?” But the crux of the matter is that if the first 3 chapters of Genesis are removed, then the whole Bible would make no sense at all, and this is really what they want to do, to dispose of the Bible for It proclaims a God that limits their desire to revel in their debauchery.

Anyone that does not take the first 3 chapters of Genesis as true and does not believe that Adam and Eve were real persons; he is no Christian at all.

Indeed a prominent woman televangelist flatly rejects the Bible verses that forbid any woman from teaching or exercising authority over a man such as: 1Ti 2:12. But of course she has to, otherwise she would be a total hypocrite.

Do these famous pants wearing women give the impression of being Christian with their short hair and masculine manners??

In these latter evil days we are bombarded from all sides by all sorts of new ideas. The unbelievable suggestion of yesterday, entertained only by a few fanatics, is today the bold reform, and tomorrow will be the accepted practice. Novelties are so numerous and so wild and rash, that in even conservative minds the feeling of wonder is exhausted and the instinct of righteous resistance fatigued, if not lost altogether. Just a few years ago the preaching women were universally condemned among all conservative denominations of Christians. Now the idea is being presented to the churches, and female preachers are knocking at our doors. We are already told that public opinion is being swayed because of the boldness and reasonableness of the claims of these woman preachers that even our own ministers are hesitant to speak out against the movement. Only in the U.S. women preachers number over 20 thousands.

But how all this spiritual rot came to be?

The apostasy of the hour came when men and women having rejected Bible truth, are confused about the most basic things. Many men are trying to be like women in dress and manner, while many women are demanding the right to be like men, to dress like men, to do the same work as men, to play the same sports as men, to fight in armies like men. They want more than equal pay for equal work; they are demanding a man’s place in the home, church, and state. Sadly, the church is always affected by society. Thus the rebellion of women in the world is causing similar problems in the churches, and we find women demanding leadership roles in many Christian, if not all of them.

The first sign of this “Downgrade” appeared during the lifetime of that “Prince of preachers” Charles Haddon Spurgeon and he firstly coined the correct phrase “Downgrade”. In his own words: “At the end of the Puritan age, by some means or other, first the ministers, then the Churches, got on “the down grade,” and in some cases, the descent was rapid, and in all, very disastrous. In proportion as the ministers seceded from the old Puritan godliness of life, and the old Calvinistic form of doctrine, they commonly became less earnest and less simple in their preaching, more speculative and less spiritual in the matter of their discourses, and dwelt more on the moral teachings of the New Testament, than on the great central truths of revelation. Natural theology frequently took the place, which the great truths of the gospel ought to have held, and the sermons became more and more Christless. Corresponding results in the character and life, first of the preachers and then of the people, were only too plainly apparent.”

It is interesting to note some dates:

Charles Darwin (1809 – 1882

Charles H. Spurgeon (1834-1892)

“The Origin of Species” published November 24 1859. This is the official start of that most ungodly Theory of Evolution that in effects supplants God in the minds of many.

Revised New Version published in 1881. This version was guided by two unbelievers, Westcott and Hort; that rejected the Textus Receptus for the corrupted version of Origen. Indeed in 1890 Mar. 4th – Westcott admitted his disbelief in the fundamental basis of the Bible and did not believe that Genesis 1-3 should be taken literally: “No one now, I suppose, holds that the first three chapters of Genesis, for example, give a literal history – I could never understand how any one reading them with open eyes could think they did – yet they disclose to us a Gospel. Interesting to note that Jesus, Paul and the Apostles frequently referred to those.

Interesting how all these factors coincided with that early breakdown in Christianity. That was known as the ‘Downgrade controversy’. There were two aspects to this development. Firstly, the publication in 1859 of Charles Darwin’s ‘On the Origin of Species’ and in 1871 of ‘The Descent of Man’, had had an enormous influence on many thinking people and there was a widespread and growing conviction that the Scriptures were no longer a reliable basis for belief in our creational beginnings and the theory of Evolution appealed very much to the carnal side of man for in effect it did away with God. Parallel with this was the growth of what was called “higher criticism” of the Bible. Scholars were examining the text of the Scriptures, not with the eye of faith nor by the aid of the Spirit, but with a secular mind that questioned its authorship as well as the veracity of long–held understandings and interpretations “Has God said?”. As a result of their pronouncements, many people felt they could no longer adhere to the traditional views of the Bible.

Listen to Spurgeon’s own words of warning: “Biblical truth is like the pinnacle of a steep, slippery mountain. One step away, you find yourself on the downgrade. Once a church or individual Christian gets on the downgrade, momentum takes over. Recovery is unusual and only happens when Christians get on the ‘up-line’ through spiritual revival.” As one very well respected pastor has insightfully noted, “Christians today tend to forget that modernism was not first of all a theological agenda, but a methodological one.” Spurgeon was right and this is exactly what we are facing today.

Nevertheless Spurgeon faithfully stuck with the truth of God: “The old truth that Calvin preached, that Augustine preached, that Paul preached, is the truth that I must preach today, or else be false to my conscience and my God. I cannot shape the truth; I know of no such thing as paring off the rough edges of a doctrine.’’

And so we “the seven thousand left” must go on to preach that old truth to our last gulp of air.

And so from the second half of the 1800 the Downgrade it was truly down hill slide, especially sustained by the 2 World Wars, with WWII fuelling to no end the secularisation of society with the aid of that satanically devised Democracy system and its daughter, Feminism.

To make the point, it is estimated that today in England, that bulwark of Christianity that sent million of missionaries all over the world, only less than 4% of the population attends church regularly, and decreasing fast. In Europe the situation is even worse. The writers of the New EU constitution steadfastly refused to even introduce a statement in it saying that Europe had its roots in Christianity, let alone stating that we live under God.

And from here the thousands of women preachers were spawned. Firstly with that theory of Evolution the Bible was rejected as the source of inerrant divine guide, then Democracy has made everyone equal reducing God’s ordinances for His creation null and void. (if this were at all possible)

As Spurgeon cried with deep insight: “Once a church or individual Christian gets on the downgrade, momentum takes over, recovery is unusual.” And there our modern church is found falling away in profound decadency with most churches having “ICHABOD” written on their doors.

The issue of Women Preachers is just one of the symptoms of this malaise of the church and so from all sides the word now used is “Post Christian Era”. But here we are dealing with this “cancer” of women preachers in the church. The Bible speaks too clearly on this subject for there to be any confusion. The problem is that churches too often are looking to sources other than the Bible for guidance; indeed they are fully steeped in the tenets of secularism. God loves women as much as He does men. Women are as important to the home, church, and society as men are. In Jesus Christ, women enjoy the same access to salvation and blessings before God as men do. This does not mean, though, there is no difference in men and women in their appearance and roles. There is a basic truth, which needs to be restated in the church and society today: Men and women are different and are not interchangeable!

Men and women were made for different roles. The New Testament affirms that men are to be the leaders in the home, church, and state. Women were not created to rule these divine institutions; men were. The prophet Isaiah was condemning Israel when he said women ruled over them (Isa 3:12). In the church (and in society), according to the Bible, no woman is qualified to be a pastor or a deacon or in any other leadership position over men for the simple fact that God has made her a woman. Who says that? God says!

“Let the woman learn in silence, with all subjection. But I do not allow a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, was in the transgression” (1Ti 2:11-14).

“Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak: but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also says the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord” (1Co 14:34-37).

How could a woman possibly be a preacher when she is forbidden to teach or to have any authority over men? Women can only be preachers if they openly disobey the Bible’s teaching.  Note, furthermore: “if they will learn any thing”  which further strengthen the fact that they cannot teach.  

Further, the Lord Jesus Christ appointed no female apostles, nor He personally instructed women. All of them were men. The standards for pastors apply strictly to men. Only a man can be the “husband of one wife” and can “rule his own house well” (1Ti 3:2,4; Tit 1:6).

PAUL’S INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR ALL CHURCHES OF ALL CENTURIES

Some are saying that the commands quoted above were meant only for first century Christians, or were only for the particular situation at Corinth. This cannot be true for many reasons. Consider:

The Epistles of Paul are taken by all as God inspired Scripture and thus his instructions in 1 Corinthians 14 are the commandments of the Lord (verse 37). As such they must be obeyed by all Christians and by every church in all times.

The Apostle said that the instructions of 1 Corinthians 14 are a test of spirituality. He said that those who are truly spiritual must acknowledge that the instructions are the very commandments of God. “If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord” (1Co 14:37).

In 1 Timothy the Apostle gives the very same instructions concerning women, and this epistle was said to have been written to teach the proper order for churches. The things contained in 1 Timothy are specific instructions about church order to be obeyed by all churches in every century; and it is in this book, the book that contains standards for church leaders, that God has forbidden women from taking authority over or teaching men.

In giving the instructions about women in the church, the Holy Spirit referred back to the original order of creation (the first 3 chapters of Genesis), Adam first, then Eve. The Holy Spirit, in guiding Paul’s pen, used this order of creation to prove that women must not take authority over men. Therefore, since the order of creation has not changed since 1 Timothy was written, and since it does not change in our culture or century, we know that the instructions of the New Testament about the woman’s role in the church apply to us today and tomorrow.

Paul referred to the Fall for support of his teaching regarding the woman’s subjection to the man. “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression” (1Ti 2:14). Again this shows that the Apostle’s teaching about the woman transcends any one culture or generation, remember that Paul war writing in the New Testament. Though we have been saved from the eternal consequences of the Fall when we receive the Lord Jesus Christ, we are still living under the abiding consequences and conditions of the Fall as long as we remain in this world.

Redemption has three aspects that must never be confused: past, present, and future. The three are seen in Romans chapter eight. Romans 8:1-10 speaks of the past aspect of our salvation–we have been saved from the eternal consequences of sin. Because of what Jesus Christ has done for us on the Cross we have been made eternally free from any fear of the wrath of God or punishment for our sin by God’s holy law. Praise the Lord! Rom 8:11-17 speaks of the present aspect of our salvation: we are being saved from the power of sin in our daily lives by the Spirit of God who indwells us. Rom 8:18-25 speaks of the future aspect of salvation: we will be saved from the very presence of sin when Christ gives us our resurrection body and comes to renew this fallen creation. We have eternal redemption right now as a present possession, yet we still “groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body” (Romans 8:23).

Likewise, the woman who trusts Christ receives eternal freedom in Him from the wages of sin, but she is not yet free from some of the consequences of Eve’s rebellion in the Garden of Eden. She still is to be in subjection to the man.

Paul referred to human nature to support his teaching regarding women. “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression” (1Ti 2:14). The woman has a different makeup than the man. She was designed for a different role in life than that of the man; that of a wife and mother. Her emotional, psychological, and rational makeup is geared perfectly for this, but she was not designed for leadership. In the Garden of Eden the devil deceived her. This was not true for Adam. He sinned, but he was not deceived. Eve had allowed herself to be in a position of decision-making she was not supposed to occupy and she fell prey to the evil one. It is no coincidence that women have been responsible for starting many of the false “christian” movements and have played key roles in spiritism, new age, mind science cults, and other satanic activities. Human nature has not changed and neither has God’s restrictions against women preachers.

Paul commanded that his instructions were to be kept until Christ’s coming. “That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1Ti 6:14). This command is given at the end of the epistle in which the Apostle had so clearly required that women be in subjection to men(1Ti 2:9-15). Since Jesus has not yet appeared, we are to continue to maintain these restrictions. Not forgetting Jesus’ words apropos: “For truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass, one stroke or one pronunciation mark shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Mat 5:18)

Paul’s letter to Corinth, in which he spoke of women being in subjection to men, was for all Christians, not just those in Corinth. In his introduction to this epistle the Apostle tells us plainly to whom he is speaking: “To the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their’s and our’s” (1Co 1:2). It is clear that Paul’s instructions were not intended merely for some peculiar situation at Corinth.

While Galatians 3:28 says there is neither bond nor free in Christ, other passages teach that this does not mean there are no servant/master relationships. The Christian servant is free in Christ–free from the eternal wages of sin–but he is not free from his earthly position and responsibilities of servitude toward his master (Eph 6:5-8; Col 3:22-25; 1Ti 6:1,2; Tit 2:9-10; 1Pe 2:18-25). In fact, anyone who teaches against these instructions regarding submission of servants to masters is labelled proud and evil: “Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. if any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; he is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself” (1 Timothy 6:1-5).

These are strong words, and they refer directly to those who try to contradict the Apostle’s teaching requiring subjection of servants to masters, such as those who promote communistic “liberation theology,” and those who stir up all sorts of strife between workers and business. These words also apply to those who are trying to throw off the apostolic teaching referring to woman’s subjection to man in the church and home and outside. Such are proud, ungodly, and destitute of the truth, and are to be separated from! We can see how serious this matter is in front of God.

Galatians 3:28 says there are no servants and no freemen in Christ, yet other New Testament passages teach there are indeed Christians who are servants and Christians who are masters. Galatians 3:28 also says there is neither male nor female in Christ, but other passages show us that this does not mean all distinction between the sexes are done away in this world, nor does it mean that the original order of creation has been dissolved in Christianity. Gal 3:28 refers to the fact that ALL have access to salvation in Christ not to the dismissal of hierarchical order in human relationships as prescribed by the Word of God (1Co 11:3).

In Conclusion:

1. To understand fully any Biblical principle we must go to the beginning and any further discussion on the matter must refer to that, i.e. the principle of first appearance.

2. The Biblical directives are not bound to a specific time or a specific culture, but are universal for all times and all cultures for they are God breathed and God is not bound by anything and He knows the beginning from the end. Besides if the Biblical principles were bound to a specific time or culture, they would be useless to future generations, the very thing that satanically inspired democratic culture wants to implement.

3. The first three chapters of the Bible must to be accepted and believed as literal and Adam and Eve as real persons the first humans ever created and that no other humans were in the Garden, besides them. Failing to accept that pulls the rug under the Bible effectively destroying the whole Good News of Christ and His redemptive work.

4. In the first 3 chapters of the Bible we have the foundation of the whole human drama and its hierarchical order where the man was created as the pre-eminent human and the woman was added by extraction from the man as subservient suitable helper for him. “8 For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.” (1Co 11:8-9)  The man is the head, not the woman.

5. Throughout the Bible we have passages that confirm that all distinctions between the sexes are NOT done away in this world, proving that the original order of creation has NOT been dissolved in Christianity but it is valid to the end of times.

6. The Lord Jesus Christ appointed no female apostles, nor He personally instructed women. All of them were men. The standards for pastors apply strictly to men. Only a man can be the “husband of one wife” and can “rule his own house well” (1Ti 3:2,4; Tit 1:6)

7. Women Preachers are a “cancer” to Christianity and are not part of the Kingdom of God. This concept is satanically inspired to dilute sound doctrine and to make Christianity fall into disuse as we so plainly see all over the world in these evil days.

“For false christs and false prophets will be raised, and they will give signs and wonders in order to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.” (Mar 13:22

Angus Buchan: Evangelist or Revivalist?

Angus Buchan is an evangelist and not a revivalist. An evangelist is involved with basic or first phase evangelism and usually addresses a particular group of people only once, or perhaps a few times during a weekend rally. After his listeners have indicated that they accepted Christ as Saviour, he regards his duty as done and then moves on to his next appointment.

A revivalist, by contrast, is particularly involved with second phase evangelisation as his messages are aimed at further steps of dedication and service to the Lord in the lives of those who already have a testimony of salvation. That is precisely what the word revival means – new life where there already is life. Christians are called to search themselves and make a new commitment to the Lord, and are also clearly shown what their responsibility is in the process of sanctification. When they comply with these demands, lukewarm, prayerless, powerless and spiritually unfruitful believers are transformed into dedicated witnesses for Christ. They will then fulfil their calling to testify about the saving grace of Jesus Christ, leading to the salvation of many sinners. That is the fruit of revival.

More than a century ago, Andrew Murray was at the forefront of a real revival ministry in South Africa. His books on sanctification as a further work of grace after conversion are still read all over the world. I even met a Russian preacher in Estonia who bought one of Andrew Murray’s books in Helsinki, Finland. Murray does not associate holiness with ecstatic experiences and signs and wonders but with a pure heart and enduement with power from on high.

Andrew Murray obviously also did basic evangelisation but it was always followed up with clear preaching on the filling of the Holy Spirit. Other well-known revival preachers in the 18^th and 19^th centuries followed the same approach. The converts from John Wesley’s meetings assembled in halls where they were taught about higher levels of spiritual dedication. They eventually established a new evangelical church.

In America, DL Moody was also an evangelist and revivalist. After evangelistic meetings were conducted in certain places and many people were saved, he followed it up with a series of messages on sanctification. Dr. RA Torrey was often requested to deliver his eight messages on sanctification during a week-long rally. They were later published under the title: The Holy Spirit – Who He is and what He Does. It made a very big difference in the lives of young believers by strongly establishing their faith and dedication. Charles Finney published a magazine to give further instruction to converts. Some of them neglected their duty to make a full surrender and to serving the Lord wholeheartedly. His words to them were: “You are a disgrace to Christianity.”

The ministry of Angus does not provide for this second phase of deeper spiritual instruction, and because of this it is somewhat presumptuous of him to often say: “We are in a revival.” The absence of this vital element of revival explains the phenomenon of why there is not a notable change in the low spiritual standards of most churches in South Africa. That so many people commit themselves to Christ for the first time at his meetings is an indication that preaching on this subject in many churches is not explicit and convincing enough.

Angus plays a very big and praiseworthy role in fulfilling this need and should be honoured for doing so. It is encouraging that a high profile person, who is in the media’s limelight, is humble and bold enough to refer to Jesus Christ as the only Saviour of the world. He also often mentions sins that separate people from the Lord. Without that, people would not be fully convicted of their sinful and lost state.

However, the fact remains that evangelisation which is not backed up by further intensive instruction from the Bible, often leads to superficial change which does not last long. It is like seeds which have been sown in shallow soil. They quickly germinate and start growing, but the young plants are not able to withstand and survive the pressure of adverse circumstances. That is why many of the converts during rallies revert to their old ways after a time.

A number of case studies on converts during gospel rallies have been conducted in the past. At places where there are no evangelical churches or Bible study groups with high standards where converts can get further instruction, more than 90% of them did not stand by their original commitment. Angus Buchan will seriously have to face this fact. In modern preaching in general, more emphasis is placed upon moralising and human relations than on an improved man-God-relationship.

Should Angus wish to achieve more success, something very definite will have to be done to provide for second phase evangelisation. In His Great Commission Christ not only said that disciples should be made of all nations, but also that they should be taught to observe all His commands (Matt. 28:19-20). This is an intensive and long-lasting task which can in most cases be better executed in small group contexts.

There are also various other matters in the preaching of Angus which cause concern. He sometimes refers to very dubious American preachers who are overly devoted to miracles, signs and wonders, as role models. Furthermore, he does not show enough understanding of Biblical eschatology. The Bible teaches that the church dispensation will end in a dark time of apostatising, tribulation and antichristian deception. Because of that, there will be a process of polarisation in which those who are filthy will become filthier, while those who are holy should become more holy. Converts should be prepared to face these challenges as their commitment to the Lord will be severely tested.

Angus, however, gives his support to kingdom reforms in terms of which the hope is raised that if most people repent, conditions in countries such as South Africa and Zimbabwe will be restored in the spiritual, moral, political as well as economic spheres. This expectation is at variance with the Biblical scenario that the majority of people will tread the broad way right down to the end, and also with the fact that we can expect more apostasy and lawlessness in the world.

Another problem which certainly has negative consequences is that Angus is so much inclined towards maintaining good relations and fostering ecumenical meetings, that he completely ignores the subject of spiritual deception and therefore has no apologetic element in his preaching. This is to the detriment of young believers as they get no guidelines for the identification of deceptive teachings. It is very good to be saved from moral sins, but there is also spiritual deception against which believers have to be warned. At one of the rallies of Angus in Port Elizabeth free DVD’s were distributed at the gates in which a false eschatology is promoted, as well as a legalistic lifestyle which includes the observance of the Old Testament Sabbath on Saturdays. The recipients did not know whether these gifts were handed out with the consent of Angus.

In spite of all these objections I have great appreciation for the fact that Angus Buchan proclaims a clear message of repentance. The value of one soul that is saved is more than all the treasures of the world. Although this promising action is not backed by a clear strategy for second phase work, thereby undoing much of the good work that has been achieved, his preaching was and still is a big blessing to many people. We should rejoice about that.

The views of Anton Bosch

I asked the opinion of Anton Bosch on the above-mentioned matter. He lived in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, for a long time before acceding to a call from a congregation in California, USA. He says the following in his letter:

“I recently watched the video Faith Like Potatoes and while that was a dramatization, I considered that with everything else I have seen and heard, and come to the conclusion that your evaluation is correct. He is an evangelist – nothing more, nothing less. The problem with evangelists (of which Billy Graham is a prime example), is that they are not equipped to do anything more than preach the gospel. That is their calling and gift. This results in two issues:

1.   They must stick to the gospel and only the gospel. The moment they begin to speak on matters of doctrine, they are out of their depth. Thus their theology cannot be trusted. Graham has proven this many times and Angus seems to be the same. That is not a reflection on them, but a reality that God has built into the church so that every member is dependant on every other member (see point 2 below). Evangelists and those around them need to understand this and not expect, or allow them to pronounce on all matters of doctrine.

2.   They need to work with other ministries who can do the follow-up. This is more than just telling people to find a good Bible-believing church. You don’t take a new-born (physical) baby, put it down in the middle of the street and tell it to find good pasteurized milk. The baby will drink anything, even poison. The baby must be parented until it comes of age. A clear example of this is with Philip: “And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. And there was great joy in that city…. Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit” (Acts 8:6ff).

I think the distinction you draw between an evangelist and revivalist is good.”

Teaching or exercising authority over a man in the church. This includes pulpit preaching and administration.

1 Tim 2:12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, andthen Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being quite deceived, fell into transgression. 15 But women shall be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.

Being a pastor/elder/overseer. 1 Tim 3 and Titus 1 explicitly identify that pastors MUST BE MEN.

1 Timothy 3:1 It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. 2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, uncontentious, free from the love of money. 4 He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity 5 (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?); 6 and not a new convert, lest he become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil. 7 And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he may not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Notice that the prohibition against women teaching or exercising authority over men in the church is IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY THE CLEAR STATEMENT THAT ONLY MEN CAN BE OVERSEERS/PASTORS! One continuous text!

Miram ~ 1500 BC

Notice that Miram usurped her place by claiming to be equal with Moses! Yes Aaron was also involved, but he was following the lead of Miram who was made a leper. Aaron was not made a leper, proving she was the instigator! (Aaron was easily swayed by the people when the people made the golden calf, “the people made me do it”)

Numbers 12:1 Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married (for he had married a Cushite woman); 2 and they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Montanus ~ 150 AD

Hippolytus wrote of the Montanists, “They have been deceived by two females, Priscilla and Maximilla by name, whom they hold to be prophetesses, asserting that into them the Paraclete spirit entered…. They magnify these females above the Apostles and every gift of Grace, so that some of them go so far as to say that in them there is something more than Christ…. They introduce novelties in the form of fasts and feasts, abstinences and diets of radishes, giving these females as their authority.” (Cited in Henry BeKenson, ea., Documents of the Christian Church (London: Oxford, 1963), 77.) Shakers [Mother Ann Lee] ~ 1700′s

Another group that practiced a form of tongues was the Shakers, an American sect with Quaker roots that flourished in the mid-1700s. Mother Ann Lee, founder of the sect, regarded herself as the female equivalent of Jesus Christ. She claimed to be able to speak in seventy-two languages. The Shakers believed sexual intercourse was sinful, even within marriage. They spoke in tongues while dancing and singing in a trance-like state. (Charismatic Chaos, John F. MacArthur, 1991, p. 234)
“On an August day in 1837 a class of young girls, ten to fourteen years old, was meeting for instruction at the Gathering Order in Niskeyuna. Suddenly some of them began to shake and whirl. In the evening, after they had retired, the senses of three of the children appeared withdrawn from the scenes of time, and absorbed as in a trance. They began to sing, talk about angels, and describe a journey they were making, under spiritual guidance, to heavenly places.” (The People Called the Shakers, Edward Deming Andrews, p 152)

Seventh-day Adventists [Ellen White]

Ellen White founded the Seventh-day Adventist church and members must vow to believe that she was a prophet! From the 27 Fundamental beliefs, #17 “The gift of Prophecy: One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecy. This gift is an identifying mark of the remnant church and was manifested in the ministry of Ellen G. White. As the Lord’s messenger, her writings are a continuing and authoritative source of truth which provide for the church comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction.” Seventh-day Adventists refuted website

Christian Scientist [Mary Eddy] ~ 1941

Mrs. Eddy wrote, “I should blush to write of ‘Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures’ as I have, were it of human origin, and were I, apart from God, its author. But, as I was only a scribe echoing the harmonies of heaven in divine metaphysics, I cannot be super modest in my estimate of the Christian Science textbook.” (Mary Baker Eddy, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany (Boston: First Church of Christ, Scientist, 1941), 115.) Although the errors of Christian Science regarding God, Christ, and the Scriptures are well documented in numerous books, Mrs. Eddy was convinced she was used by God to reveal his truth for her day. (Charismatic Chaos, John F. MacArthur, 1991, p. 80)

Mrs. Cardale and her sister Emily ~ 1831

She was a member of Edward Irving’s congregation in England and on April 30, 1831 she began to speak in other tongues and prophesy. Irving was impressed and did not exercise any restraint towards this member’s activity. Soon Mrs. Cardale’s sister Emily also began to speak in tongues and prophesy, and others followed them. The end result was that Rev. Irving was eventually excommunicated from the Presbyterian Church and he formed his own organization. He was defrocked not so much for the charismatic extremism but for his heterodox view of the nature of Christ, his Christology was aberrant. Irving’s organization later began to promote to concept of restored prophets and apostles. Irving also believed that tongues and prophecy had divine origin and were truly revelatory in nature. As with Montanus (Montanism heresy , the role of the two women prophetesses became pronounced and set a pattern destined to be repeated over the coming years.

Agnes Ozman beginning of modern Pentecostalism ~ 1901

The modern Pentecostal movement began on January 1, 1901, in Bethel Bible College in Topeka, Kansas, operated by Charles Parham, a minister with a background in the Holiness movement. The students began to seek the baptism of the Spirit with tongues, and Agnes Ozman was the first student to experience speaking in tongues. She claimed she spoke in several languages immediately. She is the first woman in North America to speak in tongues!

Woodworth-Etter, Maria ~ (1844-1924)

She was one of the more mystical of all the neo-Montanist women. She was a traveling evangelist, one of the first women to take this role in America and was initially part of the holiness-healing movement. In the 1880′s she was known to go into trances and stand stock-still for hours and sometimes days. During these trance times people would come into her meetings and be miraculously healed or converted. In 1890 she reports people receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit as evidenced with the speaking in other tongues and people seeing heavenly visions. “The Holy Ghost was present in great power, with gifts, signs, and visions, following the laying-on-of-hands. There were visible signs of light and glory on the pulpit, and through the congregation seen by the natural eye by some” (Signs & Wonders, Harrison House, pg. 150-151). Sister Woodworth-Etter is possibly the source for many of the aberrant doctrines taken up by the New Order of the Latter Rain in the late 1940′s. She practiced the laying on of hands for healing (which is Biblical), delivering people from demons, and conveying spiritual gifts. Tremendous healing’s allegedly took place in her meetings, including the raising of the dead on certain occasions. Sister Etter started twelve churches, ordained twelve ministers to pastor these churches. In 1918 she built the Woodworth-Etter Tabernacle (humble huh?) in Indianapolis in which she served as pastor until her death. She must be counted as the “mother” of today’s Signs & Wonders Movement.

Foursquare Gospel Church [Aimee Semple McPherson] ~ 1920′s – 1930′s

Nationally known healing evangelist in the 1920′s – 1930′s. Founded and headed the Foursquare Gospel Church, led a controversial life and died of a drug overdose in 1944.

Kathryn Kuhlman

Kathryn Kuhlman was ordained a Baptist minister, but did not associate her ministry with any denomination She was heavily influenced by the Azusa street revival, and by the Roman Catholic church. She was well known for the manifestations that occurred at her meetings, including “laughter”. She is said to be responsible for the introduction of the manifestation of “Slain in the Spirit”. There were some differences to the current movement, though, in that she insisted that her meetings be orderly. Manifestations interrupting the service were not permitted. She was highly regarded in many Christian circles, and strongly influenced Benny Hinn and John Arnott.

Pensacola/Brownsville blessing ~ 1995-2000

The testimonies of the two young girls at Pensacola mark a major shift in that revival.

Hank Hanegraaff, author of the book Counterfeit Revival, criticized the revival for “serious distortions of biblical Christianity” in the meetings, comparing the physical manifestations to pagan practices.^[15] Kilpatrick responded by issuing a prophecy aimed at Hanegraaff, claiming “within 90 days the Holy Ghost will bring you down.” This prophecy proved to be false.^[16]

As Spurgeon cried with deep insight: “Once a church or individual Christian gets on the downgrade, momentum takes over, recovery is unusual.” And there our modern church is found falling away in profound decadency with most churches having “ICHABOD” written on their doors.

The issue of Women Preachers is just one of the symptoms of this malaise of the church and so from all sides the word now used is “Post Christian Era”. But here we are dealing with this “cancer” of women preachers in the church. The Bible speaks too clearly on this subject for there to be any confusion. The problem is that churches too often are looking to sources other than the Bible for guidance; indeed they are fully steeped in the tenets of secularism. God loves women as much as He does men. Women are as important to the home, church, and society as men are. In Jesus Christ, women enjoy the same access to salvation and blessings before God as men do. This does not mean, though, there is no difference in men and women in their appearance and roles. There is a basic truth, which needs to be restated in the church and society today: Men and women are different and are not interchangeable!

Men and women were made for different roles. The New Testament affirms that men are to be the leaders in the home, church, and state. Women were not created to rule these divine institutions; men were. The prophet Isaiah was condemning Israel when he said women ruled over them (Isa 3:12). In the church (and in society), according to the Bible, no woman is qualified to be a pastor or a deacon or in any other leadership position over men for the simple fact that God has made her a woman. Who says that? God says!

“Let the woman learn in silence, with all subjection. But I do not allow a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, was in the transgression” (1Ti 2:11-14).

“Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak: but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also says the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord” (1Co 14:34-37).

How could a woman possibly be a preacher when she is forbidden to teach or to have any authority over men? Women can only be preachers if they openly disobey the Bible’s teaching.  Note, furthermore: “if they will learn any thing”  which further strengthen the fact that they cannot teach.  

Further, the Lord Jesus Christ appointed no female apostles, nor He personally instructed women. All of them were men. The standards for pastors apply strictly to men. Only a man can be the “husband of one wife” and can “rule his own house well” (1Ti 3:2,4; Tit 1:6).  ( above quote by aymon de albatrus)

I often find myself in discussion with other women on social media concerning the matter of women as pastors/leaders in the church.  More often I am frowned upon by undiscerning women than not , about my strong conviction against any form of women usurping authority over men in the church. I echo the words from the quote above “Women can only be preachers if they openly disobey the Bible’s teaching” . If we as women make a study of Scripture it becomes clear there is only one truth. By digging into the existence of women in the church as teachers, we only need to read what Paul clearly taught in the NT.  The influence of Feminism has been immense over many, many ages and women wanting gender equality, it  has been fought and won by those who follow the lie that Feminism teaches. Sadly it has had a detrimental effect in the visible church today, to the extend that there is a genderless Bible that is also gaining popularity in the churches that chooses to follow secular humanism rather than the written Word of God.  We are sure heading toward a genderless society , as secular humanism is pushing more and more for gender equality in the name of humanism. The Bible is clear that a man and a woman differs and have different roles.

“Tertullian, in his book of Women’s Apparel, after he has shown many causes why gorgeous apparel is abominable and odious in a woman, adds these words, speaking as it were to every woman by name: ”Do you not know,” says he, “that you are Eve. The sentence of God lives and is effectual against this kind; and in this world, of necessity it is, that the punishment also live. You are the port and gate of the devil. You are the first transgressor of God’s law. You did persuade and easily deceive him whom the devil durst not assault. For your merit (that is, for your death), it behooved the Son of God to suffer the death; and does it yet abide in your mind to deck you above your skin coats?”

Augustine, in his twenty-second book written Against Faustus, proves that a woman ought to serve her husband as unto God, affirming that in nothing has woman equal power with man, saving that neither of both have power over their own bodies. By which he would plainly conclude, that woman ought never to pretend nor thirst for that power and authority which are due to man. [54]For so he does explain himself in another place, affirming that woman ought to be repressed and bridled betimes, if she aspires to any dominion; alleging that it is dangerous and perilous to suffer her to proceed, although it is in temporal and corporeal things. And thereto he adds these words: “God sees not for a time, neither is there any new thing in his sight and knowledge:” meaning thereby, that what God has seen in one woman (as concerning dominion and bearing of authority) the same he sees in all; and what he has forbidden to one, the same he also forbids to all. [55]And this most evidently yet in another place he writes, moving this question, “How can woman be the image of God, seeing (says he) she is subject to man, and has none authority, neither to teach, neither to be witness, neither to judge, much less to rule or bear empire?” [56]These are the very words of Augustine, of which it is evident that this godly writer does not only agree with Tertullian, before recited, but also with the former sentence of the Law, which takes from woman not only all authority amongst men, but also every office appertaining to man. “ (A quote from ,the First Blast of the Trumpet Against the Monstrous Regiment of Women)

The First Blast of the Trumpet is, perhaps, Knox’s most famous and controversial work. In the twentieth century, few people have read the book, and still fewer have made an attempt to understand the reformer’s position.

For Knox, the teaching of scripture alone is sufficient to prove that women should not bear rule over men. The testimony of scripture is so plain, he wrote, that “to add anything were superfluous, were it not that the world is almost now come to that blindness, that whatsoever pleases not the princes and the multitude, the same is rejected as doctrine newly forged, and is condemned for heresy” (p. 390).

Knox knew that his 16th-century opponents expected citations from classical and patristic sources. Therefore, the reformer takes aim at both the position and polemical methods of his critics by quoting some of the stoutest comments imaginable, refuting the government of women. Whether Knox personally joins with the ancient authors in every detail is immaterial; by numerous references to antiquity, the reformer demonstrates that there is a venerable history of opposition to the rule of women. Still, Knox points out that his main argument, even if stripped of the patristic citations, is fundamentally based upon the authoritative word of God. “For as I depend not upon the determinations of men, so I think my cause no weaker, albeit their authority is denied unto me; provided that God by his revealed will, and manifest word, stands plain and evident on my side” (p. 400).

Contemporary readers should also recall that, when Knox speaks of “nature,” he is often making reference to human nature. Even so, he states, “this part of nature is not my most sure foundation” (p. 385). Again, his principal concern is with the revealed will of God, written in the Bible.

The treatise was published in Geneva in 1558. As indicated in the preface, the work was published anonymously. The author wished to conceal his identity, until he had issued two more blasts, intending to disclose his name with the publication of the Third Blast. The reformer’s plan to write two sequels remained unfulfilled, although he later published a summary of the contents which he proposed to treat in the Second Blast. The summary of the Second Blast was appended originally to his Appellation (1558), but readers will find this summary following the First Blast in the present volume (pages 435-36).

Mason, William Penn were also prominent in spreading the Quaker version of the gospel. John Wesley’s mother would not conform and started being the worship leader. The prophecy made by the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:1-5 has come to pass in our day. All over the world men, and women, and boys, and girls gather in religious assemblies. Some are very solemn. Others can barely be distinguished from dance hall revelry. But they gather in the name of Christ to worship God. They read the Bible, say their prayers, invoke God’s blessing, and give their money. They are devoted. They are sincere. But they are lost! They have faith; but theirs is a false faith. They have hope; but their hope is a delusion. Having been led and taught by blind and ignorant men, “They will not endure sought doctrine; but after their own lusts…they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears…They turn away their ears from the truth and (have been) turned into fables.”

I am not talking about Hindus, Buddhist, and Muslims. I am talking about men and women who profess to know, worship, trust, and serve the living God by faith in his Son Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit. I am talking about our friends, relatives, and neighbors. I am talking about many of you. You have turned away from the truth have been turned unto fables. Do I have your attention? If you will pay attention to the Word of God, God just might teach you something.

You know what a fable is. It is a brief story, dreamed up by a man to teach a moral, ethical lesson, but factually it is a lie. Here are three common religious fables, dreamed up by men to teach people moral principles. They are universally embraced, proclaimed, and defended. These three fables are constantly presented throughout the city, across this country and around the world in this day of man centered religion as the very truth of God. But they are in fact lies which are damning to the souls of all who believe them.

We here from every quarter that “God loves everyone.” You can read it on church signs, bumper stickers, and bridges all across this country. But it is a bald faced lie. God does not love everyone. He never has! Nowhere does the Bible say or imply that he does. If God loves everybody, he has a mighty strange way of showing it. Try preaching that those who perished in the flood, the sons of Korah, the damned in hell. They know better! The fact is, the Bible plainly tells us that God does not love everyone. Have you never read in his Word where God said, he hates all workers of iniquity and that he is angry with the wicked every day? Did you never read, “Jacob have I loved; but Esau have I hated?” (Psa. 11:5; 7:11; Rom. 9:13). “God is love.” We rejoice in that. But God’s love is in Christ. In the Bible there is no assurance of God’s love given to anyone apart from faith in Christ.

I have heard all my life, like you have, that “The Lord Jesus Christ died to redeem and save all people.” There is no doctrine in all the world more blasphemous than that. To say that Christ died for all people without exception is to say that he died for multitudes for whom he refused even to pray. Read it for yourself in John 17:9 and 20. To say that he died for all without exception is to say that he died in vain for the multitudes of the damned! That is blasphemy! It is a blatant declaration that Jesus Christ is a failure! If he s a failure, he is not God and is not fit to be trusted. The Bible nowhere teaches or implies that Christ died for, redeemed, or came to save those multitudes who are at last lost in hell. Those for whom Christ died shall never die! The Son of God redeemed all whom he came to redeem; and he shall save all whom he came to save.

We are told by religious leaders everywhere that “The Holy Spirit of God is doing all that he can to save all people.” You know that is not true. There are multitudes to whom the Spirit of God has never even sent his Word. The Bible says nothing of the Spirit trying to reprove, trying to convince, or trying to regenerate. The Bible declares, “It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing.” Have you been turned away from the truth? Have you been turned unto fables? May God be pleased now to turn you to the truth and cause you to receive the love of the truth, for Christ’s sake.

Though there are many ethnicities, this message argues that all human beings actually form a single race.

1689. The understood what the Bible taught. What did the Bible teach?  The Bible taught we are one in Adam, we are one in Noah, we are one in Christ.

Christ came to redeem his people in Adam, in Noah and he has but one people. We are but one Church.  We are but one race. There has always been but one race.  All of us has been marred by the racism in our culture, every last one of us. Don’t think for a minute that you have gotten away from it unscathed. You haven’t. You have bathed in it for years and years and years. And when you look at people you make snap judgments. You do.  You do.

Somebody walks in the door and immediately we look at that individual and if that individual has brown skin we find one of our brown skinned families in the church to introduce that individual to. Why?  Because we think brown skinned people are going to have more in common with brown skinned people and we want that brown skin person to know, hey, we got brown skinned people in our church, too.

If you can’t say amen, you ought to say ouch. Because we do it all the time. Why? Because a fish doesn’t know he is wet, that’s why. That’s why. A fish doesn’t know he is wet.

And you and I have no idea that though we are followers of Christ and have been redeemed, that the area of racism and prejudice is something that needs to be scrubbed from our souls, from every last one of us.

My prayer is that this church would always be a church that holds up high the banner of Christ, period, end of discussion. And if you can unite around Christ you can unite with us. I don’t care if you are pink, green or purple. If you can unite around Christ you can unite with us. But if you have a problem with accepting other people as one race, you are not welcome here. Repent. Fall on your face before our Jewish, middle brown Savior and beg him to cleanse you with his blood that looks just like yours.

What does the Bible say about false “profits”  like Bentley and the likes ?

Matthew 7:15-20 KJV Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (16) Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? (17) Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. (18) A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. (19) Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. (20) Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

The Bible also teaches it is impossible to  renew these type of men back to repentance.

Hebrews 6:4-8 KJV For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, (5) And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, (6) If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. (7) For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: (8) But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

Hebrews 6:3-6

“If They Shall Fall Away…”

Salvation is by God’s free and sovereign grace alone. The sinner’s only hope before God is the blood atonement and imputed righteousness of Christ. That salvation which God gives to and works in his people is eternal salvation. All true faith is permanent, persevering faith. However, there is a faith, which is a satanic delusion.

Carnal Security

Here is a terribly sobering fact plainly revealed in Holy Scripture. We will be wise to lay it to heart. — It is quite possible for men and women to have an undisturbed peace, unshaken assurance, and unquestioned security with regard to their eternal destiny, and yet have no saving interest in Christ. If that fact is not alarming to you, it should be. The Lord God sounds this blaring warning by his prophet Obadiah: – “Woe unto them that are at ease in Zion!”

Satan is a crafty, subtle foe. He knows that the surest way to keep sinners from the saving knowledge of Christ is to give them some satisfying, conscience soothing substitute, some religious experience, or feelings, or gifts, or knowledge by which they may convince themselves that the grace of God is surely theirs.

Do not be deceived. Many have gifts who have no grace. Multitudes profess faith they do not possess. Countless thousands enjoy peace who do not have pardon. Hoards of men and women, orthodox to the core, are yet without life before God. There is a form of godliness possessed by men who deny the power of it. Many have a name that they live who are yet dead in trespasses and in sins. Hell is bulging with eternally damned souls who went to that place of torment assured that they were on the road to heaven, with a Bible in their hands, a song in their hearts, and a profession on their lips. At the time when Lot’s wife felt most secure, she went to hell! When all the other apostles were fearful, saying, “Lord, is it I?” Judas was perfectly confident.

Examine Yourself

There is nothing on this earth more fearful than the carnal security of religion without Christ. Let us bring our faith to the Word of God and examine it. May it please God to search our hearts and let us see if we have the faith of God’s elect (2Co_13:5; 2Pe_1:10; Psa_139:23-24). If our faith is the faith of God’s elect, if it is sound, if it is a God given faith, examination will only strengthen it, and cause us to cling more firmly to Christ. If our faith is false, examination may expose it. If we have built for ourselves a refuge of lies, in which we are trying to hide from God, may he graciously destroy our false refuge and hide us in Christ by his almighty grace.

Hebrews 6:4-6

A Mere Form of Godliness

In these verses the Spirit of God shows us plainly that there are some people who have what appears to be heavenly gifts who have no grace in their hearts. Multitudes have religion who do not have Christ. Many there are who enjoy great experiences who have never experienced grace. Many have a form of godliness who know nothing of the power of God by which sinners are born again. These verses speak of people who have experienced much, professed much, and demonstrated much in religion. Yet, they have no saving union with Christ. They have faith; but it is a false faith. They have repentance; but it is a repentance that needs to be repented of. They have experienced religion; but they have not experienced the grace of God. Beware of resting your soul upon experiences, gifts, and outward works of religion. To build your house upon these things is to build upon sand. It is possible to be ranked with the most spiritual, most gifted, most zealous men and women in the world, and yet go to hell in the end (Mat_7:21-23). Is your faith the faith of God’s elect; or is it a false faith?

• False faith may be greatly enlightened and knowledgeable of gospel truth. Judas was. True faith receives the love of the Truth (2Th_2:10).
• False faith excites the affections, like the stony ground hearers of the parable, and causes people to spring up like shooting stars, only to fade quickly. True faith is the abiding, growing gift of God.
• False faith reforms the outward life and causes people to live better before men. True faith arises from a regenerate heart and causes people to seek the will and glory of God.
• False faith may speak well of Christ, as the Jews did. True faith loves Christ.
• False faith confesses sins, like King Saul. True faith confesses sin, like David.
• False faith may humble itself in sackcloth and ashes, like Ahab. True faith humbles itself before God.
• False faith may repent in terror, like Esau and Judas. True faith repents in contrition, being convinced of God’s way of salvation in Christ (Joh_16:8-11).
• False faith often performs religious works very diligently. Saul of Tarsus did. True faith is a faith, which “worketh by love.”
• False faith is sometimes very generous and charitable (Ananias and Sapphira). True faith causes ransomed sinners to be generous, willingly, constrained only by love and gratitude.
• False faith may tremble at the Word of God, like Felix. True faith trembles and bows.
• False faith often experiences much in religion. True faith trusts no experience, no matter how great, and looks to Christ alone.
• False faith often enjoys great religious privileges, like Lot’s wife. True faith places no confidence in the flesh.
• False faith may preach, perform miracles, and cast out demons, like Judas. True faith rejoices in having one’s name written in heaven.
• False faith often attains high office in the church, like Diotrephes, and walks with great preachers, as Demas walked with Paul. True faith is honored to keep the doors of God’s house and walk with Christ.
• False faith may be peaceful and carnally secure, like the five foolish virgins. True faith presumes nothing, but looks constantly to Christ.

Hebrews 6:4-6

Religious But Lost

Men and women often feel, experience, and do much in religion who never experience God’s saving grace. Neither emotional experience, nor orthodoxy of creed, nor reformation of life is necessarily a token of grace. Heb_6:4-6 speaks of such people. Look at what these people have experienced.

Enlightened

They were once enlightened to an understanding of Gospel truth. These were heretics. These are not Arminians, free-willers, papists, or Hindus. These people know the truth, at least mentally. They intellectually perceive and submit to the doctrinal truths of the gospel. To them, the doctrines of the gospel are logical and reasonable. They accept them as facts plainly revealed in the Word of God.

The fact is – The natural man can see and understand any doctrine taught in Holy Scripture. He cannot see the glory of God in the face of Christ; but he can see and glory in doctrine. He cannot love Christ; but he can love doctrine. The unsaved man may be a better theologian than the believer. But the poor, uneducated believer knows and loves what the unregenerate man never can. The believer knows, loves, trusts, and rejoices in Christ.

Tasted Heavenly Gifts

Multitudes have tasted the heavenly gifts who have never tasted the Gift of heaven. During the Apostolic age, miraculous gifts were given to men. Some could heal diseases, speak in tongues, and prophesy. But miraculous gifts, which appear to be gifts of the Spirit, are by no means an evidence of grace, salvation, and eternal life. Gifts of the Spirit can be, and often are, counterfeited by Satan (2Th_2:7-10).

Tasting the heavenly gifts and powers of the world to come is not salvation. Salvation is eating the Bread of Life. Salvation is not in miraculous gifts, but in immutable grace. Salvation is not in feelings, emotions, and experiences, no matter how great and life changing they may be. Salvation is in Christ! A man can preach with power and eloquence, and yet not know Christ. – Judas did. A man can perform miracles, and not know God. – Pharaoh’s magicians did. A man can cast out demons, and yet be the messenger of Satan (Mat_7:21-23). A person can speak in tongues, and yet speak by the power of the devil. A man can preach, promote, and defend righteousness, and yet speak by him who transforms his ministers into angels of light and preachers of righteousness. Spiritual gifts and usefulness must not be looked upon as evidences of grace and salvation.

Partakers of the Holy Ghost

This passage even speaks of lost men and women who have been made partakers of the Holy Ghost. Many people look at that and say, “Without question, these were once saved people.” But that is not the case at all. We read of wicked King Saul that, “The Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied,” but the Spirit of God was not in him. Balaam spoke by the Spirit and prophesied of Christ’s coming, but never knew the Christ of whom he spoke. In fact, Balaam’s ass even spoke a word from God by the power of his Spirit; but neither Balaam, nor his ass, were born of God.  Caiaphas, the high priest, spoke by the Spirit of God, declaring the gospel as plainly as any man ever did. Yet, he was a lost man.

It is possible for men to say and do things which, considered by themselves, make it appear that they are partakers of the Holy Spirit, though they are not born of the Spirit. There were many in our Lord’s day, as there are today, who believed; but the Master did not commit himself to them, because he knew what was in them (Joh_2:23-24).

Tasted the Word of God

We are told in Heb_6:5 that these people have even tasted the good Word of God and the powers of the world to come. They love good preaching, and are moved by it. You find them at every Bible conference. Their emotions are stirred by the preaching of the Word; but it never reaches their hearts.

This is what the Holy Spirit teaches us in this passage: — It is quite possible for men and women to enjoy rare, unusual gifts and experiences, without experiencing God’s saving grace in Christ. Outward gifts and heartfelt emotions impress and deceive. We must have something more. We must have Christ (1Co_13:1-3).

In this chapter, the apostle warns against evil seducing spirits, advises us to examine and try the spirits, gives rules by which evil spirits are recognized and then returns to his favorite subject — brotherly love!

v.1. ‘Beloved, believe not every spirit.’ The word ‘spirit’ signifies to a man who claims to be endowed with the gift of the Spirit to perform the office of prophet, preacher, or teacher. God’s word is received from the mouth of man, but some who claim to speak for God are false preachers and are sent by Satan to deceive and disturb the church. There were false teachers among Israel, there were false teachers in the days of the apostles and there are false teachers today (2Pe_2:1-3; 2Co_11:13-15). Let this fact be fixed in our minds that, from the time the gospel began to be preached, false prophets immediately appeared, and we must not be dazzled by everybody who claims to be holy, to speak for God, to work wonders and to be a minister of righteousness. We must try these spirits (these preachers and religious leaders).

v.2. Let all preachers and religious leaders be tried by the word of God first (Act_17:11; Isa_8:19-20). This will expose most of them, for they do not preach the word of truth at all. Their messages are full of free will, human righteousness, life by law and works, the advocacy of Mary and saints, God’s weakness and inability, sabbath keeping, rituals and holy days, infant salvation and all manner of tradition and open error. But John lays down a special mark by which we can easily distinguish between true and false prophets. Christ Jesus is the object of true faith and the whole foundation of acceptance with God. Therefore, he is also the stone at which all heretics stumble, and his person and work will be the place where error will be most evident. Have you heard about the latest Bible “translation?” This one comes from the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) camp, from the brain of one man, a human-appointed “Apostle.” It’s called “The Passion Translation,” written by Brian Simmons of Stairway Ministries.

Simmons has actually released four installments of his new translation:

• Psalms: Poetry on Fire
• Song of Solomon: Most Amazing Song of All
• Luke: To the Lovers of God
• Letters From Heaven by the Apostle Paul

Coming this fall he is releasing Proverbs, Wisdom From Above.

Let’s do a side-by-side comparison of Proverbs 8. Just for fun, I’ll use the NIV to compare what the Bible says, vs. what Simmons thinks it should say. First, the real deal:

Simmons says our standard translations of the Bible, transcribed by hundreds of scholars from the original scrolls, are just head knowledge and don’t adequately capture God’s passion. (He apparently missed the part in 2 Timothy 3:16 that says that every word is breathed-out by the Holy Spirit.) From his website:

The Passion Translation Project is a groundbreaking attempt to re-introduce the passion and fire of the Bible to the English reader. God longs to have His Word expressed in every language in a way that would unlock the ‘passion’ of His heart. The goal of this work is to trigger inside of every English speaker an overwhelming response to the truth of the Bible as it is unfiltered by religious jargon – unfolding the deep mysteries of the Scriptures in the language of love, the language of the heart. Accurate to the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts, but passionately powerful in a contemporary form.

Holly Pivec over at Spirit of Error blog points out that Simmons is manipulating Scriptures to make it appear that heretical NAR teachings and practices such as “prophetic singing,” the “transference of an anointing,” and the issuing of “apostolic decrees,” are actually supported by the Bible – which of course is false. But to the biblically illiterate, it will sound so right:

This translation is potentially one of the most disturbing developments in the NARmovement. Simmons is following in the footsteps of the major cults of Christianity who have released their own translations of the Bible, including the New World Translationused by the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Joseph Smith Translation used by some groups of Mormons.

By creating a new NAR translation of the Bible, Simmons is shaping the way a generation of NAR followers will read and understand Scripture–and also creating a divide between those who use the NAR translation and those who don’t.

It remains to be seen how many NAR people will make the switch to this NARtranslation of the Bible. If a lot of them do switch Bibles, then The Passion Translation could truly–as its advertisements say–”impact the Church for years to come.” Source:

Many explanations have been given for the explosion of the Charismatic movement in Africa. Many have seen this as a powerful visitation of the Holy Spirit. Whereas there is probably more than one reason, I want to add my own observation to this for what it is worth. In this blog post, I do not refer to the old conservative form of Pentecostalism once represented by the Assemblies of God churches. I have in mind the current extreme form that is mushrooming literally under every shrub and tree in Africa. How can one explain this phenomenon?

Not all in the Bible is true ? 

Cape Town  – Simply because something is written in the Bible, does not mean that it is necessarily true.

Yesterday, this was how Archbishop Desmond Tutu referred to sections of the Bible written by the Apostle Paul, which address homosexuality.

He was speaking at the launch of the United Nations campaign toward equality for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender human rights (GLBT), where he also stated that he felt just as strongly about these rights as he did about apartheid, and that he fully supported the campaign.

He appealed to religious leaders to become involved and said that it concerned human rights.

He said that people often quote the Apostle Paul and, however, that Paul had said many things, such as that women should remain quiet and that everyone should get married. “Just because something is written in the Bible, it is not necessarily true.” He further stated that Bible texts were a great source of torment for many people. He said that he could feel their terrible torment.

Twice he made referral to the same point, “I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place.” Later, “I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this,” he said, condemning the use of religious justification for anti-gay prejudice.

It is the first time that the UN has started a campaign such as this. The campaign is known as “Free and Equal”.

Also at the campaign with Tutu were Judge Edwin Cameron and the UN high commissioner for human rights, Navi Pillay.

CAPE TOWN – During a news conference introducing a United Nations homosexual rights campaign, former African Angelican archbishop and anti-apartheid activist Desmond Tutu told reporters that he would rather go to Hell than a “homophobic Heaven.”

“I would refuse to go to a homophobic Heaven. No, I would say, ‘Sorry, I would much rather go to the other place,’” Tutu, 81, stated. “I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this.”

He made the comments Friday at a news conference for the UN’s “Free and Equal” campaign in Cape Town, South Africa, which was spearheaded by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The campaign seeks to gain equality for homosexuals worldwide, including in Africa, where most nations oppose or criminalize sexual activity between those of the same gender.

“I am as passionate about this campaign as I ever was about apartheid,” Tutu said. “For me, it is at the same level.”

Tutu : “God is not a Christian”

The Rev. Desmond Tutu, archbishop and primate of Southern Africa, has weighed in with World Council of Churches leaders who seek to have the council transcend Christian boundaries. “After all,” said Tutu, “God is not a Christian.”

According to Tutu, this act of Jesus Christ set in motion a unity that knows no boundaries. In fact, although Christ is the one who initiates this unity, allegiance to Christ is apparently not a necessary prerequisite for entering into this unity. “Jesus, it appears, was quite serious when he said that God was our father and that we belonged all to one family, because in this family all, not some, are insiders. None is an outsider – black and white, yellow and red, rich and poor, educated and not educated, beautiful and not so beautiful, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, atheist, all belong, all are held in a divine embrace that will not let us go – all, for God has no enemies.”

The key toward re-establishing that primordial unity that God intends for all his creation is the unity of the church, Tutu said. Suggesting that the unity of the human family is dependent on the unity of the church, and the unity of the church is, in large degree, dependent on the unity of the World Council of Churches, Tutu said, “A united church is no optional extra. A united church is indispensable for the salvation of God’s world.”

In a press conference that followed his address, Tutu emphasized his key point: “We believe in one family, and in our quest for this one family, the WCC is crucial.” Tutu congratulated the WCC for being “one of the foremost forums for interfaith dialogues, an activity that must be taken even more seriously today.”

A reporter asked Tutu if there are any limits to plurality and diversity when seeking unity. “God is the God of all,” replied Tutu. “We are too prone to excommunicate. God welcomes all of us . Today we Christians have moved a long way toward understanding that we don’t have a corner on the God market.

Inter-religious dialogue is high on the priority list for this 9th General Assembly of the WCC. During his opening remarks, Aram I, moderator of the WCC, urged delegates to think beyond the walls of the church and consider the possibility of “the hidden Christ” in other religious traditions. The moderator’s suggestion was seconded by Rowan Williams, archbishop of Canterbury, who urged the WCC to find new models through which Christians could see in the eyes of non-Christians “a reflection of what we see,” even if they do not identify that vision in Christian terms.

Throughout the assembly meeting, non-Christian spiritualists and those who practice “indigenous peoples” traditions have been provided seminar space and “ecumenical conversation” opportunities, in order for delegates to learn how they communicate with the spirit world and to engage them in inter-faith dialogues.

Cape Town – ACDP leader Rev Kenneth Meshoe has slammed Archbishop EmeritusDesmond Tutu for his “homophobic God” statement, The Cape Times reported on Wednesday.

“Archbishop Desmond Tutu is out of order when he alleged that God is a homophobic God, and that he finds fault with scriptures that teach that homosexual life style is a sin before God,” the African Christian Democratic Party leader was quoted as saying.

“We ask Archbishop Tutu not to confuse people who respect the scriptures, and advised him to keep his unbelief to himself if he does not believe in the teaching of the Holy Bible.”

He was reacting to Tutu’s comments on Friday, at the launch of a United Nations campaign to promote the fair treatment of lesbians and gays.

Young Women and Discretion

“The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness . . .  that they may teach the young women to be sober . . . to be discreet, chaste . . .  that the word of God be not blasphemed” —Titus 2:3-5.

In the fifth verse of the second chapter of Titus the aged women are to teach young women “to be discreet.” What does it mean to be discreet? It means to be prudent, judicious, cautious; wise in conduct and management, especially as to matters of propriety and self-control.

A young woman who measures up to these qualities in mind, heart, soul, spirit, and life certainly rises above the degrading principles of sin and wickedness. Her life is one of nobility, beauty, usefulness, and sublimity. She sets examples before her husband, children, and neighbors that areworthy of emulation. They know her life is hid with Christ in God. She possesses the Spirit of our Lord, and this enables her to discern between the evil and the good, and to avoid evil, error, and anything and all things that would mislead her. She likewise shields her husband and children from evils and errors, sins and wickedness, that they are environed with. At least she warns and cautions them against such, and shows them the higher, better, holier, and more beautiful and worthwhile things in life.

The discreet woman is possessed with the spirit and ability to adopt “means to an end,” and of course this means that which brings her and the family to a good end. She avoids the means that would injure her life, character, soul, and influence, and that would likewise injure her family and those about her. She must realize that what she takes into her life will have its effect, through the years—and will bring her to a good end, only as the means are good. She knows that the good will work out right, while the bad will work out wrong. She realizes that the good is a means to a good end, but the bad is a means to a bad end. Therefore she takes into her very soul the good and rejects the bad. She is discreet. Those who know her realize that she is a woman of great and commendable discretion.

Her discretion includes prudence. She is careful about her conduct, her influence, her aims, plans,  and purposes. She guards her tongue, her temper, and her dress. She is decent in dress, upright in manners, and is careful to lead others right. She uses economy at home, seeing that nothing is wasted, and lives within her income. Extravagance is far from her. She is not stingy by any means, as there is a vast difference in stinginess and economy. Rather, she is blessedly liberal, yet she is cautious to see that money is not foolishly and uselessly expended; that food and clothing are not wasted, and that anything usable is not cast into the rubbish heap and carried away as rubbish.

The discreet woman is likewise judicious. She is governed by sound judgment. She is wise. The devil can’t lead her into the snares, traps, and pitfalls that he leads the sinful, wicked world into. She prays for wisdom, for sound judgment, and God gives it unto her. She helps her husband with his problems, and helps him in his decisions, plans, aims, and purposes. She uses her good judgment in the home, in the church, in the community; and when she passes on anything, it is usually right. The enemy can’t “pull the wool over her eyes” as he does the woman who only lives in sin and serves the world and the flesh. To God be the praise and the glory. What a blessed thing for a wife and mother to be sound in her judgment—and when she passes on anything, for it to be in reason and within the will of God! If sometimes she errs, it is an exception, and is of the head and not the heart. God overrules in all such and brings good out of it (Rom. 8:28).

The discreet woman is cautious as to how she lives, with whom she keeps company, where she goes, what she says, and what she does along life’s journey. She helps her husband and children to be cautious. We might say, too, that the unmarried woman is discreet—and every one should be—who uses much caution as she journeys through the years. She is cautious as to her company, as to her courtship and companionship, as to her character and virtue, her conduct, and influence. She is cautious about everything that pertains to noble and beautiful womanhood. She regards her character far above riches, and the trifling evils, pleasures, amusements, and destructive sins of the world. To her, clean, pure, upright womanhood is a “pearl of great price” (Matt. 13:46). She would not sell her virtue, character, and pure womanhood for all the gold and silver, rubies, diamonds, jewels, and pearls in the world. She is not for sale at any price. That’s womanhood at its best. That is what makes a woman a real lady in the sight of both God and man. Men respect her, admire, love, and appreciate her, out of hearts that are godly, which likewise make them Christian gentlemen.

The discreet woman conducts herself wisely. Life to her is real and earnest. It is noble and sublime. Her deportment is such that men take knowledge of her—that she has “been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13). She possesses great self-control. She cannot be led astray, like silly women who are worldly and ungodly. She anchors her life to God, to Christ, the mighty “Rock of Ages.”

To be a discreet woman is a wonderful height to reach in life. It is more to be desired than education, fame, honor, and earthly glory. The woman of great discretion certainly out-rises, outshines, and far outdistances the ungodly movie star, actress, popular worldly flapper, or anyone else that lives for the devil.

Hippolytus wrote of the Montanists, “They have been deceived by two females, Priscilla and Maximilla by name, whom they hold to be prophetesses, asserting that into them the Paraclete spirit entered…. They magnify these females above the Apostles and every gift of Grace, so that some of them go so far as to say that in them there is something more than Christ….

Another group that practiced a form of tongues was the Shakers, an American sect with Quaker roots that flourished in the mid-1700s. Mother Ann Lee, founder of the sect, regarded herself as the female equivalent of Jesus Christ.

Ellen White founded the Seventh-day Adventist church and members must vow to believe that she was a prophet! From the 27 Fundamental beliefs, #17 “The gift of Prophecy: One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecy. This gift is an identifying mark of the remnant church and was manifested in the ministry of Ellen G. White.

Mary Baker Eddy, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany (Boston: First Church of Christ, Scientist, 1941), 115.) Although the errors of Christian Science regarding God, Christ, and the Scriptures are well documented in numerous books, Mrs. Eddy was convinced she was used by God to reveal his truth for her day. (Charismatic Chaos, John F. MacArthur, 1991, p. 80)

Mrs. Cardale and her sister Emily ~ 1831 ~ She was a member of Edward Irving’s congregation in England and on April 30, 1831 she began to speak in other tongues and prophesy. Irving was impressed and did not exercise any restraint towards this member’s activity. Soon Mrs. Cardale’s sister Emily also began to speak in tongues and prophesy, and others followed them.

Agnes Ozman beginning of modern Pentecostalism ~ 1901 ~ The modern Pentecostal movement began on January 1, 1901, in Bethel Bible College in Topeka, Kansas, operated by Charles Parham, a minister with a background in the Holiness movement. The students began to seek the baptism of the Spirit with tongues, and Agnes Ozman was the first student to experience speaking in tongues. She claimed she spoke in several languages immediately. She is the first woman in North America to speak in tongues!

Woodworth-Etter, Maria ~ (1844-1924) ~ She was one of the more mystical of all the neo-Montanist women. She was a traveling evangelist, one of the first women to take this role in America and was initially part of the holiness-healing movement. In the 1880′s she was known to go into trances and stand stock-still for hours and sometimes days. During these trance times people would come into her meetings and be miraculously healed or converted. In 1890 she reports people receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit as evidenced with the speaking in other tongues and people seeing heavenly visions. “The Holy Ghost was present in great power, with gifts, signs, and visions, following the laying-on-of-hands. There were visible signs of light and glory on the pulpit, and through the congregation seen by the natural eye by some” (Signs & Wonders, Harrison House, pg. 150-151)

Foursquare Gospel Church [Aimee Semple McPherson] ~ 1920′s – 1930′s ~ Nationally known healing evangelist in the 1920′s – 1930′s. Founded and headed the Foursquare Gospel Church, led a controversial life and died of a drug overdose in 1944.

Kathryn Kuhlman ~ Kathryn Kuhlman was ordained a Baptist minister, but did not associate her ministry with any denomination She was heavily influenced by the Azusa street revival, and by the Roman Catholic church. She was well known for the manifestations that occurred at her meetings, including “laughter”. She is said to be responsible for the introduction of the manifestation of “Slain in the Spirit”. There were some differences to the current movement, though, in that she insisted that her meetings be orderly. Manifestations interrupting the service were not permitted. She was highly regarded in many Christian circles, and strongly influenced Benny Hinn and John Arnott.

Pretoria – A South African church leader has come under fire after reports that he made members of his congregation eat grass.

Pastor Lesego Daniel, who is based in Garankuwa, north of Pretoria, told dozens of followers to eat grass because “it will bring them closer to God”.

Daniel made headlines globally after images were shown of his followers laying down in a field and furiously munching grass. Further images were then shown of some followers vomiting.

The news has been carried by UK media and many South African organisations.

People were apparently been drawn to the pastor’s church, Rabboni Centre Ministries, after it was claimed that he performed miracles.

One of Daniel’s followers, Doreen Kgatle, says she had a stroke two years ago and could not walk but since eating the grass she regained the strength in her legs.

But many people have started questioning Daniel’s credentials and complained on the ministry’s Facebook page.

“No man of God would tell the people of his flock to eat grass… this man is not of God, run away as far as you can from him and his teachings,” said one user.

“Did you yourself taste that grass? Why feed it to your congregation? This is purely abuse of power and betraying God’s word!” says another.

Daniel has not responded to the complaints or queries but some of his followers have come to his defence.

“I don’t care wat peaple say even my family members come nd intimidate me but i stand firm in the word of God nd tell them this is my pastor sent to me nd the nations by God to God be the Glory [sic],” said one church member.

(Let this month of fasting be the development of our Spirit where we are even prepared for the year. Fast in Spirit and in truth not with your mind)

If you keep the law, you don’t experience Christ and fullness of Him
Colossians 2:6-15 (beware here meaning, they came and preached a different gospel. You start well then along the way, tradition of man *bad company corrupts* and now you don’t experience Christ. It is difficult to change a man doctrinated by a man. There’s law that comes from man and becomes his tradition. Do not be slaves of men.
We need the fullness of God as Christians, as we might find ourselves not having the fullness of Him and principalities dealing with you. You might find yourself doing Isaiah 28 – plough, level and at the end having no seed. This means you fast but receiving nothing, no results.)
Reference Scriptures:
John 1:16 so, out of His fullness we receive, imagine if you make it a lifestyle, you will always receive. John 10 –“I’ve come that you may have life in abundance” so out of that abundance, you receive. Ephesians 3 – He is able to do exceedingly above all that we ask or think abundantly according to the power that works in us.” Here, thieves have no chance to intervene because you receive in His fullness.
Ephesians 1:18-20 – in His fullness, you get to experience, touch that which you understand, your eyes flooded with light. It’s painful to serve without eyes flooded with light because it’s easy for you to follow tradition. And you cannot correct and lead others while you have your own speck.

Back to Colossians 2: 10 (In His fullness, you are able to please God in all things. Even you too, they must be afraid of your name though you make yourself low *humble yourself* you are lifted. It is good to be circumcised by Christ. He says; “I’ve come to blind those who claim to see and open the eyes of those who don’t see” The blind man was saved (circumcised) by his confession when he said Jesus opened my eyes, I was blind. Just like Zechariah, “Oh Lord, I don’t know, You know.” That’s a confession.
If someone doesn’t believe in the work of God, where then is the spiritual circumcision? Many are struggling with breakthrough because there’s something against you – law. Tablets of stones = Law. When the devil tempted Jesus, Jesus said; “Men cannot live on bread alone but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God” meaning, the food – the Word.

Galatians 6:11-18 (Most people want to be accepted by people. They run away from persecution (God’s fullness) but Paul said, “I delight in persecution…”
Circumcision of the flesh is pleasing people, making impressions.
Never please any man and don’t be afraid to be persecuted. Don’t depend on anyone to connect you, depend on Christ and they will come to you because of the power of God. Be connected from above, the glory of Jesus Christ.
Verse 17 – this is extreme, you touch me, is like you touch Christ. This is more than; “touch not the oil and the wine”. Here, we find the marks of Jesus Christ. So, the brand marks of Jesus Christ are in you after those persecutions and God cannot release you without those brand marks.

What does the Bible say about wolves such as Lesego Daniel infiltrating the Church ?

For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

False prophets are cunning infiltrators. Jude identifies apostate preachers as men who slither into churches “in unawares.” Their plan is to subtly infiltrate the kingdom of Christ. The Greek verb translated “crept” is never used anywhere else in the New Testament. It is a very rare word that has to do with cunning speech and clever debaters.

For instance, the word is used in extrabiblical literature in a legal sense to speak of someone who pleads a case very cleverly, with guile. It is used to represent a lawyer who plants a thought in the minds of a judge or a jury by trickery. It is used to describe a criminal who secretly slips back into the country after being exiled from it.

The word “crept’ means “entered in secretly.” That is precisely what false prophets do. Deceivers have a real problem with truthfulness, openness, and honesty. They never come in announcing, “I am a messenger of Satan, and I would like to join your church.” This word “crept” literally means, “to go down into and alongside.” False prophets go down into the church and get alongside believers. They pretend to believe; but they are Satan’s counterfeit prophets. As his servants, it is their determination to destroy the work of God. Such infiltration had already begun in Jude’s day. False prophets had moved into the church and were beginning to sow lies about who Christ is, what he has accomplished, and how he saves sinners. That form of attack is nothing new. It has gone on through the centuries, is still going on today, and will continue to go on until Christ comes again. The Puritan Thomas Manton wrote…

“When the Christian church began…there were adverse powers without ready to crush it, and Libertines who, like worms bred within the body, sought to devour the entrails and eat the very bowels of it. The first ringleader was Simon Magus, and there followed many…who, being once turned aside from the truth and the fellowship of the faithful, lost all awe of God, and were given up to a sottish judgment to believe all kinds of fables and fancies….In succeeding ages the devil hath often played over the old game, sometimes oppressing the church by the tyranny of pseudo-Christians…at other times corrupting the truth by error, or rendering it suspicious by the divisions about it. Heresies revolve as fashions, and in the course of a few years antiquated errors revive again.”

They are like those adversaries of Israel described in Ezra 4:2, who came to Zerubbabel saying, “Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him,” though it was their intent to disrupt the work. They are like Simon Magus in Acts 8, who wanted to be baptized and acknowledged as a follower of Christ, though he was an enemy to Christ. Peter’s words have come to pass. — “There were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction” (2 Peter 2:1). ~ Don Fortner

GA-RANKUWA - Pastor Lesego Daniel of Rabboni Centre Ministries, infamous for making his congregation eat grass, has struck again.

He now has his congregation drinking petrol and saying it tastes ‘sweet’.

It tastes like pineapple juice.

In scenes that will leave you open-mouthed, his congregation clamours desperately to have a drink of the petrol as the pastor preaches and encourages them.

Members of the church exclaim how “sweet” and “nice” it tastes, comparing it to “Iron Brew” and “pineapple juice”.

A couple of them beg the pastor to “please give us some more”.

According to healthline.com, petrol is poisonous to the body and ingesting it causes symptoms which include breathing difficulties, throat pain, burning in the esophagus, abdominal pain, vision loss, vomiting (with blood) and bloody stools.

It also causes dizziness, extreme fatigue, convulsions, body weakness and unconsciousness, which members of the congregation appear to display in the video.

A few of the followers who consumed the alleged petrol, end up collapsing on the floor, displaying symptoms similar to those listed above.
